How to Handle Working in the Same Office as the Ex?

By BreakUpAdviceOnline.com Staff

Love is all around and it can happen anywhere. People can meet at a party and a spark can cause these two individuals to be lovers. There are those who have succeeded in a blind date set up by friends. This can also happen in the office when colleagues work together on a project and an attraction takes place.

There are some companies that find this to be acceptable. Those that don’t allow this sort of behavior require one of the people involved to transfer to another department. Companies do not interfere when these things happen and will only do so if this causes problems in the workplace.

Since not all things have a good ending because of a variety of reasons, people choose to end it. Things will change from that moment on and those in the office will really watch out for what may happen next.

People should treat each other on a professional level in the office. Those that had a relationship before should also follow this rule since negligence on any part of the individual could lose money for the company.

The people can try avoiding each other but this doesn’t prove to be good. The former partners should not discuss the relationship or try to put it back together in the office. Such matters should be discussed elsewhere since this is a domestic problem between the people involved.

There will be times the two have to work together on a project. This should be handled professionally for the good of the company. If the person has a hard time, then perhaps being honest about it with the boss is a good idea. This will ensure the success of the project in the hands of someone else who is focused.

The best thing for the couple and the company will be to bring it back to the level when both were just colleagues. This can be done by only speaking when it is work related. Anything else should not be mentioned until these people are ready to talk.

If the person feels uncomfortable working with the ex, perhaps it is time for the individual to think about leaving the company. This idea might have also crossed the mind of the other person.

Those who choose to stay and love the job have to be strong and bite the bullet. This can be done by working hard to forget about the former lover and only be concerned about advancing one’s career in the company.

Seeing a former lover at work everyday can be challenging. This takes a lot of effort to smile and pretend nothing ever happened especially if deep inside there are still feelings for the other person.

The person who is in this situation should just accept the reality and move on. This doesn’t mean falling for someone else in the office but doing other things and meeting new people in other places.

Someone once said that there are a lot of fish in the sea. This means there are other places that the person can meet that special someone. Those who don’t have that much of a social life should spend more time with friends to do other things that couldn’t be done with the former lover.

There are classes that the person can sign up for by looking in the newspaper. Sports and other programs that is always available in the gym or in the neighborhood. All the person has to do is open one’s eyes and look around and realize there is a bigger world out there not confined to the four corners of the office.

Getting over a former lover who is also an office mate will not go away overnight. This is an issue that will slowly fade away only if the person wants it to happen. In the mean time, proper decorum should take place.

The office is not a place where people get together like in a party. It is a venue where individuals work hard to make the company grow. This is something that should instill in the mind of former lovers as the two choose to work in the same office.
