How to move on

By BreakUpAdviceOnline.com Staff

So you have been dumped. So what? There is no use moping around like the whole universe has fallen on you. For anyone who has every experienced breaking up with someone, two short words hold the most power. Move on! That is the best anyone can ever give to anybody who has been left in the cold by someone.

Why is moving essential? For one, you certainly cannot find a new love if you are still stuck up on your ex. There is absolutely no way you can accommodate a new relationship if your mind and heart are still cluttered by painful memories of your past.

Having a hard time moving on? Follow the tips below to finally forget about your ex.

1. Talk to people. Aside from your ex that is. Talking to friends and close relatives can help you unburden yourself of unexpressed resentments and anger. The catharsis you get from talking can help you heal faster. Just choose someone whom you really trust. Do not be afraid to open up. Talking may be the easiest way to get over your painful feelings.

2. When you are absolutely ready, it is advisable to clear things with your ex. Unresolved issues regarding finances, ownership, etc. can haunt you in the future. So be sure to break up cleanly especially before you get involved with another relationship. This might be hard to do, especially if you still have feelings for your ex but this is absolutely necessary.

3. Get yourself distracted. Keep yourself busy. The days and weeks after a break up might be a good time for you to finally take that long vacation you have always wanted to take or to that house renovation project you have always wanted to do. Maybe you can take up a new sport or simply go to the gym. You can learn a new language or take up a new hobby like gardening. Doing these things will not only keep your mind of your ex, you will also be able to improve yourself in the process.

4. Another thing you could use as a distraction is work. Work hard. The satisfaction you will get from accomplishing something is good for your self esteem. Your boss will definitely appreciate your hard work and might give you a big raise in return.

5. Pamper yourself. Indulge in things you have always loved like chocolates, facials, massages. Go on a shopping spree if you want. Don’t feel guilty about pampering yourself. You deserve it. Just does whatever can help make you feel good about yourself. Splurge on bath oils, aromatherapy candles, bubble baths, incenses

6. Date again. It doesn’t have to be serious. You can go out for the sake of going out with someone. Just don’t spill your hearts out on your dates. At least not on the first few dates. Ask a friend to hook you up with someone. Or if you want you can join one of those single clubs in the Internet. Bring a single girlfriend along to a singles bar. Remember, that you can meet a potential partner anywhere. Have fun. Just always remember to be safe. The possibilities for a single girl are endless.

7. Don’t have sex with your ex. Especially immediately after the break up. It is simply not healthy for both of you to engage in sexual relationship after splitting up, especially if your break up is not smooth.

8. Count your blessings. It easy to pity oneself after being dumped. Anyone who has ever been dumped knows that is probably the time when their self esteem was at its lowest. But you must resist self-pity. Instead on focusing on the bad things, focus on the good things instead. Be positive. Things will get better and you will meet a better guy soon.

9. Be responsible. It easy to get wild and crazy after a break up. Just make sure that you won’t do anything that you will regret later. Be careful of your actions especially when you are out with someone.

10. Do not blame yourself. And also try not to dwell on the past. Resists thinking the “could’ve beens” and “should’ve beens.” Instead focus on the future and the promises it carries.
