Infidelity: One of the Leading Causes of Divorce

By BreakUpAdviceOnline.com Staff

When two people decide to get married, this is a serious matter that should last forever. The couple must uphold the vows that have been said to the many witnesses that attended and in the eyes of God.

Unfortunately, some things don’t turn out to be a happy ending. There are those who later on realize that the person one married is the wrong one. This is after noticing certain changes in that individual and finding out there is a third party.

This may happen in months or over a number of years. Studies show that 60% of men and 40% of women will have an extra-marital affair during the marriage. This person could be a co-worker, a neighbor or a common friend of the couple. Regardless of who caused it, the damage has been done and trust with the spouse is gone.

What should the person do? Just forgive the individual for the infidelity and move on as if nothing ever happened? Some people try to do that and seek the help of a marriage counselor to try and salvage the relationship. There are couples who succeed.

Those that don’t since trust is gone will leave the other partner for good. This isn’t only packing up and leaving but also filing for divorce.

Divorce is common in developing countries. This usually happens in Europe, parts of Asia and the United States.

There are many reasons why people file for this and the only reason why it takes such a long in the courts is because the spouse does show up during the hearing. Should the couple and the lawyers be present during the court appointed date, this will make the job of the judge easier in making a verdict.

The circumstances for the filing of divorce have to be seen by the judge. Should there be sufficient grounds, such as infidelity on the part of the spouse, then this is an example where the request is granted.

Divorce allows the person to marry again despite the fact that the individual has done it before. Since there some countries that do not allow this because it destroys the sanctity of marriage, the next best thing will be to allow annulment to take place. This means the marriage never took place.

Aside from deciding in favor the person who requested it, there are other issues that have to be discussed. Should there by any children involved, the family court will decide who will raise the kids.

Those who don’t want to break up the family can agree on joint custody. Other circumstances can grant custody to only one person and visitation rights to the spouse.

Another issue that has to be dealt with is alimony. Should the spouse not earn much or be unemployed and will be granted custody to the kids, the other person has to give allowance on a monthly basis.

When two people get married, the assets are usually in the name of the couple. Part of divorce means giving some to the person while the rest can be kept by the former partner.

Divorce is messy and this is why the two people involved should be sure before getting married. If the person is uncertain, then maybe it will be a good idea to wait.

Marriage is about love, trust and understanding. If there are certain issues that are not resolved, infidelity and other causes of a divorce will take place. The person who files this in the court will just be another statistic on the board and those caught in the middle will have a hard time in life.

By being open and listening to the needs of the spouse, these incidents can be avoided. The other person will not look for love, sex or intimacy anywhere else when the husband or wife can satisfy the needs of the partner.

Marriage can only happen if the two people involved decide to make it work. This is not just for the kids but for the family as a whole.

The parents are the role models. The decisions that the couple will make will dictate the future course of the marriage. This will determine if it will succeed or be another failure.
